The best Claude connectors for team communication in 2026: Gmail, Outlook and Teams, Superhuman, Slack, Intercom, WhatsApp, and the shared inbox. Which channels each covers, what Claude can do on each, and where the read/write line falls.

  • Communication is where the read/write line matters most: most connectors let Claude search and read your channels, but replying, the thing communication actually is, needs write tools, and only some connectors have them.
  • For your own mailbox, Claude's built-in Gmail integration or the Microsoft 365 and Superhuman connectors cover search and reading on paid plans. None of them send.
  • For a shared inbox, where a team answers customers together, Drag's connector (our product, disclosed) is the write-tools entry: drafting, sending with permission, assigning, and WhatsApp in the same place.
  • The strongest setup is one reading connector for where decisions happen (Slack or Teams) plus one writing connector for where customers are answered. Every entry below is placed on that map.
Table of contents

The short version: communication connectors split into readers and writers, and you need one of each. Readers let Claude search what was said: the built-in Gmail integration, Microsoft 365 for Outlook and Teams, Superhuman Mail, Slack, and Intercom's history tools. Writers let Claude actually communicate: draft, send, reply, and route, and as of August 2026 that mostly means a vendor's own MCP server, which on this page is Drag, our product, disclosed throughout, covering shared Gmail inboxes and WhatsApp with 47 tools. Zapier bridges the channels nothing else reaches. Below: what each connector covers, channel by channel, and what to actually ask it.

This is the communication chapter of our connector series, written by the team that runs one of the connectors in it. The full business list audits every category; this page goes deeper on the one where teams live all day.

The last column is the page in one glance: reading is common, replying is rare, and replying is the job.

1. Drag: the shared inbox that answers back

What's waiting in support from overnight? Draft replies to the three oldest.

Claude logo
search_threadsget_threadreply_to_thread

Found 9 open threads from overnight in the Support board. Three drafts are ready for your review; nothing was sent.

Drafting needed your permission the first time. Sending always does.

Full disclosure first: Drag is our product, and on this page it is the writer. Shared addresses, support@, sales@, hello@, are where communication is a team sport, and where a read-only assistant runs out of usefulness fast: the queue needs triage, drafts, sends, assignments, and labels. Drag's MCP server gives Claude 47 tools for exactly that, with per-tool permissions so sending is always something you allowed. Setup is a two-minute secure connect flow: paste your API key once from Drag's Settings, then Integrations; the key is verified and handed to Claude as its access token, and the MCP service stores nothing.

What Claude can do with Drag connected:

  • Find, read, and triage threads across the team's boards
  • Draft replies in your tone, and send them with your permission
  • Assign, move, label, and archive conversations
  • Answer from your knowledge base instead of improvising
  • Read response-time and workload analytics

Drag is a shared inbox for Gmail teams from $12 per user per month as of August 2026, AI included from $18. Try Drag free for 7 days, no card required.

2. Gmail built-in: your own mail, searchable

Find the thread where Acme asked about SSO and summarize where it ended.

Claude logo

Found it, six messages ending July 30. It ended with Acme asking for a security doc and you promising a follow-up by Friday.

Illustrative conversation, shortened.

Claude's built-in Gmail integration, available on paid plans as of August 2026, makes your personal mailbox answerable: find the thread, summarize where it ended, list what you committed to. It reads and searches only, no sending, no drafting into Gmail, which is the honest boundary to know. As a reader it is excellent, and paired with the writer above it covers both halves of email life.

What Claude can do with the Gmail integration:

  • Search your mailbox in natural language
  • Summarize long threads and extract commitments, dates, and amounts
  • Reconstruct where a conversation left off before you reply yourself

3. Microsoft 365: Outlook and Teams in one connector

What did legal say about the Acme DPA in Teams, and is the doc in SharePoint final?

Claude logo

Legal asked for a 30-day retention cap on Tuesday. The SharePoint doc is still marked draft v4, last edited Thursday.

Anthropic publishes an official Microsoft 365 connector, so Microsoft-stack teams get their two communication surfaces, Outlook mail and Teams chat, plus SharePoint and OneDrive files, through one sign-in. Teams search is the sleeper feature: decisions made in channels stop being unfindable. Like the Gmail integration it reads and searches; it does not send mail or post to Teams.

What Claude can do with Microsoft 365 connected:

  • Search and read Outlook email
  • Search Teams messages for decisions and context
  • Pull SharePoint and OneDrive documents into the same answer

4. Superhuman Mail: for inbox-obsessed operators

Claude · connected to Superhuman Mail

Which emails from this week am I still ignoring that I shouldn't be?

Claude logo

Three: the Fabrikam contract question (4 days old), the intro from Priya you said yes to, and finance's card-expiry notice.

Superhuman publishes its own Mail connector in Claude's directory, aimed at the people who already pay for the fastest email client: it lets Claude search and reason over your mail the way Superhuman's own AI does, surfacing what you are ignoring and what needs you next. It is a reader, personal-mailbox class, and its natural pairing is the same as Gmail's: a writer where the team answers together.

What Claude can do with Superhuman Mail connected:

  • Search and read your mailbox in natural language
  • Surface neglected threads and waiting-on-you items
  • Summarize a sender, a topic, or a week of mail on request

5. Slack: where decisions hide

Found it: #pricing, March 14. Decision: move the entry tier to $12 at the April billing cycle. Link is below.

Slack is the team's collective memory, and its connector makes that memory queryable: what was decided, by whom, in which thread. It also posts, with permission, which turns any summary Claude built from the other connectors on this page into something the team actually sees. Reader first, light writer second.

What Claude can do with Slack connected:

  • Search messages and channels for decisions and context
  • Reconstruct a discussion's history and outcome
  • Post summaries and updates to channels, asking first

6. Intercom: what customers said, everywhere you work

Claude · connected to Intercom
Y

What has this customer raised with us before?

Claude logo
search_conversationsget_conversation

4 previous conversations, three about billing. The unresolved theme: invoices arriving after their finance cutoff date.

Illustrative conversation, shortened.

Intercom's connector brings customer conversation history into Claude: what this customer has raised before, what themes keep recurring, what the last escalation actually said. Its 13 tools also read, create, and update Help Center articles, making it the one entry here that writes documentation rather than messages. For chat-based support teams it is the institutional memory; for replying inside a shared email inbox, that is entry #1.

What Claude can do with Intercom connected:

  • Search conversations by state, author, and assignment
  • Pull a customer's full history before you respond or renew
  • Read, search, create, and update Help Center articles

7. WhatsApp: the channel most assistants can't touch

Reply to the WhatsApp customer asking about delivery, and log it on their card.

Sent: delivery lands Thursday, tracking link included. Logged the exchange on their card in the Support board.

WhatsApp tools are part of Drag's 47-tool MCP server. Sending asked for permission.

There is no native WhatsApp connector in Claude's directory as of August 2026, and for teams that live on WhatsApp Business that is a real gap. The honest route through it is a connector that carries WhatsApp as a channel: Drag's server includes WhatsApp tools, reading conversations, sending messages and templates, alongside the email inbox, so the customer who emails on Monday and WhatsApps on Wednesday is one thread of context, not two systems. The deeper dive is our WhatsApp MCP server guide.

What Claude can do with WhatsApp through Drag:

  • Read WhatsApp conversations alongside email in the same boards
  • Send messages and approved templates, with permission
  • Keep email and WhatsApp context on one customer card

8. Zapier: SMS, Telegram, and the long tail

Every communication channel this page has not named, SMS gateways, Telegram bots, Discord, niche helpdesk systems, is almost certainly reachable through Zapier's connector, which exposes actions across more than 9,000 apps by Zapier's own count as of August 2026. It writes as well as reads, within whatever actions you configure, making it the pragmatic answer for the channel your team uses that nobody builds first-class connectors for.

What Claude can do with Zapier connected:

  • Send messages through SMS, Telegram, Discord, and thousands of other apps
  • Trigger notification workflows from a conversation
  • Bridge a reading connector here to an action anywhere else

The pairing that actually works

Every strong setup we have seen uses one reader and one writer. The reader sits where your team talks about work: Slack or Teams, plus your own mailbox. The writer sits where your team answers customers: the shared inbox, WhatsApp included. One of each and Claude can carry context in both directions: "what did the team decide" flows into the customer reply, and "what are customers saying" flows into the team channel. All eight entries above are placed on exactly that map, and the coverage table at the top is the shortcut.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude send emails?

Not through its built-in Gmail integration or the Microsoft 365 and Superhuman connectors, which search and read only as of August 2026. Sending needs write tools from a custom connector: Drag's lets Claude draft and send replies in a shared Gmail inbox, asking permission before anything goes out.

Can Claude use WhatsApp?

Not natively: Claude's directory has no first-party WhatsApp connector as of August 2026. Teams reach WhatsApp through a connector that carries it as a channel, like Drag's MCP server, which reads WhatsApp conversations and sends messages and templates alongside the shared email inbox, with per-tool permissions.

What is the best Claude connector for email?

For your own mailbox: the built-in Gmail integration on paid plans, or Microsoft 365 and Superhuman Mail from the directory, all reading and searching. For a shared team mailbox where replying is the job, Drag's connector is the write-tools option, and it is our product, so judge that claim against the capability lists above.

Can Claude read Microsoft Teams messages?

Yes, through Anthropic's official Microsoft 365 connector, which searches Teams messages along with Outlook mail and SharePoint and OneDrive files. It reads; it does not post to Teams. Admins control which sources are enabled for the workspace.

Are these communication connectors safe to use with customer data?

The controls are per tool: you approve access through each vendor's own sign-in, and Claude asks before acting, so a connector with send tools can still run read-only in practice. The sensible policy for communication specifically: reading on, sending always on ask-first, and admin-level restrictions on Team and Enterprise plans.

If you connect one writer today, make it Drag

The disclosure stands, Drag is ours, so here is the case stated plainly enough to check. Every other entry on this page reads; Drag is the one that replies, and replying is what communication is for. It takes one two-minute connect, works with the Claude plan you already have, and the trial is free for 7 days with no card, which means the honest test costs nothing: connect it to Claude on Monday morning, ask "what's waiting in support from overnight, draft replies to the three oldest", and judge the result against your own queue, not our copy. If the drafts are not worth the two minutes, disconnect and keep the readers. Try Drag free, or start from the connect guide if your team already uses Drag.
